2013 Gibson Custom Shop Joe Perry 1959 Les Paul Reissue Tom Murphy Aged

NT$ 688,000.00

Limited to only 50 pieces worldwide, this is one of Gibson’s most legendary Signature Les Paul models ever produced and is widely recognized by collectors as one of the most desirable Tom Murphy signature creations.

This model is a faithful recreation of the 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard owned by legendary Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, featuring the original guitar’s serial number 9-0663. This legendary Les Paul Burst was previously owned and played by both Eric Johnson and Slash, before returning to Joe Perry’s hands after approximately 35 years. It is regarded as one of the most historically significant and story-rich Gibson Bursts ever made.

Even more famously, this very 9-0663 is the Gibson Les Paul used by Slash during the iconic solo scene in the church from the music video of “November Rain.” In 2020, Slash’s own Signature Les Paul model featured the legendary November Burst finish, which was inspired by this historic guitar, further cementing its unforgettable place in Gibson history.

To faithfully recreate the original instrument, Gibson invited legendary aging expert Tom Murphy to personally oversee the production. The series was released in two versions: 50 aged and personally signed editions and 100 aged unsigned editions. This particular guitar is the extremely rare Aged Unsigned Edition, limited to only 100 pieces worldwide, making it highly sought after among collectors.

The guitar features a carefully selected mahogany body, rosewood fingerboard, and Joe Perry’s exclusive 1959 Neck Profile. It is equipped with a specially voiced set of Custom Bucker Alnico III PAF pickups, designed to closely replicate the warm, rich midrange, and airy tonal character of the original guitar’s vintage PAF pickups.

Tom Murphy personally recreated every detail of the original 9-0663, including the aged finish, color, hardware details, and decades of natural playing wear. Every mark and imperfection was carefully replicated to capture the authentic character of the original Burst, making this one of the most representative Signature models personally crafted during the Tom Murphy era.

It is also important to note that after the introduction of the Murphy Lab series in 2021, all aging processes have been handled by the Murphy Lab team, and Tom Murphy himself is no longer personally involved in production. Because of this, earlier Signature Murphy Aged models have continued to gain significant recognition in the global collector market. Models associated with artists such as Slash, Jimmy Page, and Joe Perry have shown remarkable appreciation in recent years, with many examples increasing to two or three times their original market value. These instruments represent not only exceptional investment potential but also important pieces of Gibson’s historic legacy.

This guitar remains in approximately 90% original condition, with excellent preservation. The original certificate, signature documents, hang tags, and all accessories are included.

For Gibson Burst collectors, Joe Perry fans, Slash enthusiasts, or Aerosmith followers, this is far more than just a Les Paul — it is a piece of Gibson’s golden era history and a truly collectible dream instrument with outstanding long-term value.

From Gibson Custom:

The rich, road-worn character of this guitar, serial number 9-0663, is utterly moving, and it seems to throb with the wealth of music and experience earned over decades of being played on stages and in recording studios around the world.

“It’s got everything a great Les Paul is supposed to have,” says Perry. “The neck isn’t quite as fat as, say, a ’54 Goldtop, but it’s still got a good, meaty neck. It’s not a high-output guitar, so it’s got a lot of tone … And it’s got all the natural sustain and warmth, and when you turn it up it growls.”

As stunning a tone monster as this guitar is, however, the story of its passage in and out of Perry’s hands over the years is equally riveting. Slash, Boston-area guitar legend Billy Loosigian and Eric Johnson have all owned number 9-0663 over the years, as it did the rounds through the various ups and downs of Aerosmith’s career.

Once it was clear that Joe had made the shift from struggling to thriving as an artist, he sought to recapture his most cherished axe for good. Many years, many phone calls, and many near misses later, this 1959 Les Paul returned to the man who seemed destined to call it his own.

Thanks to Gibson Custom and Perry, fans and players can now own the closest possible thing to Joe’s most prized guitar, in the form of one of a very limited run of replicas based on exclusive access to the original.

It is available now in a limited run of 50 guitars aged and hand-signed by the artist, 100 aged guitars, and 150 finished in Gibson’s VOS process.
