琴面採用嚴選的5A等級Curly Maple超級虎紋，嚴選的非洲桃花心木琴身，未上漆的Hormigo琴頸保留了自然手感，搭配非洲黑木指板。指板上為Abalone Knot搭配Bello Opal Oval所打造的特殊Celtic Knots Inlay，琴頭的Private Stock Eagle為Bello Opal搭配Holly Outlines。拾音器配置為Paul's TCI拾音器，除了三段拾音器切換以外，額外提供了兩組Mini Toggle EQ切換開關，去除經過特定頻率調整的低頻，保留並強調高頻訊號，讓整體聲音更加清晰透明。背蓋上有著John McLaughlin本人親筆簽名，成為極具收藏價值的細節。

The John McLaughlin is a Private Stock Signature Model released as a limited edition of only 200 guitars worldwide. Every aspect of this instrument was personally specified by Paul Reed Smith, with each piece of wood carefully selected not only for its tonal characteristics, but also for its figure and weight.
The guitar features a hand-selected 5A-grade Curly Maple top with an exceptional flame figure, paired with a premium African Mahogany body. The unfinished Hormigo neck preserves a smooth, natural feel, while the African Blackwood fretboard offers outstanding clarity and response. The fretboard is adorned with the exclusive Celtic Knots inlays, crafted from Abalone Knot and Bello Opal Oval, while the Private Stock Eagle on the headstock is inlaid in Bello Opal with Holly outlines.
Electronics consist of Paul's TCI pickups, controlled by a traditional 3-way pickup selector. In addition, the guitar features two mini-toggle EQ switches, which act as tuned high-pass filters by reducing selected low frequencies while preserving and emphasizing the upper frequencies. This results in a remarkably clear, articulate, and transparent tone with exceptional note definition.
As a final collector's touch, the control cavity back plate is personally hand-signed by John McLaughlin, making this model even more desirable for collectors.
The guitar remains in excellent 90% condition, with only a few minor signs of cosmetic wear on the finish, as shown in the photos, and these have been reflected in the asking price.

The PRS Private Stock John McLaughlin is a classic instrument that has been meticulously spec’d by Paul Reed Smith to honor John McLaughlin. All of the woods were specially chosen by Smith for their tone, figure, and weight. The specs are fairly straightforward: maple top, mahogany back, hormigo neck (a tone wood used on marimbas for sound-producing tines) with an African blackwood fretboard, 22 frets, 25” scale length, Pattern neck, PRS’s patented Gen III tremolo, and PRS Phase III tuners.
Some of the more particular details on this model are in the finish, pickups, and electronics. The guitar is finished in high-gloss nitro with an unfinished neck with clear grain filler for a smooth, natural playing feel. The TCI pickups feature American Alnico and are paired with volume and tone controls with a 3-way toggle pickup switch and two mini-toggle EQ switches. The mini-toggles act as tuned high-pass filters when engaged (in the up position), removing shelved low-end and allowing the high frequencies through for more clarity and musical highs.
“Being John’s guitar maker is an honor I fought decades for, and to now be able to give him a signature model is a special moment for me and hopefully the industry,” said Paul Reed Smith. “These guitars were designed to both feel like magic when you pick them up but also disappear in your hands so you can just focus on playing. John is capable of playing at extraordinary speed and with this instrument, you hear every note. Finding that balance as a guitar maker and coaxing every bit of sound out of the guitar was the key.”
