Vintage 1966 Gibson ES-330TDC Cherry Red

The history of the ES-330 can be traced back to 1936, when Gibson introduced its first Spanish Electric Archtop Guitar, the ES-150, equipped with a single-coil pickup. "ES" stands for Spanish electric guitar. By 1938, the more affordable ES-100 (later renamed the ES-125) replaced the ES-150, and Gibson soon launched the higher-end ES-250 and ES-300 models.
The success of the ES series drove Gibson’s sales, and during this time, the electric guitar started becoming a mainstream instrument. After WWII, Gibson began refining and enhancing the design of the ES series. In 1948, along with the existing ES-125, ES-150, and ES-300 models, Gibson added dual P-90 pickups to the ES series for the first time, bringing unprecedented innovation to the electric guitar market. That same year, Gibson President Ted McCarty incorporated dual P-90 pickups into popular hollow-body electric guitars like the ES-175, Super 400, and L-5. In 1952, Gibson officially released the first solid-body electric guitar with dual P-90 pickups: the Les Paul Goldtop. By 1954, sales of Gibson's electric guitars surpassed those of hollow-body guitars for the first time, and models like the Junior, Special, and Custom series followed in subsequent years.
The ES-335 debuted in 1958, and the ES-330T was introduced in 1959. The ES-330 shares the same body size as the ES-335, but its neck meets the body at the 16th fret, whereas the ES-335's neck joins at the 19th fret, giving the ES-330 a shorter neck. The ES-330T was discontinued in 1962 and replaced later that year by the dual P-90 equipped ES-330TD.
This is a 1965/66 ES-330, in a classic Cherry Red finish and no fading. It features a maple body, mahogany neck, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and full-hollowbody construction with P-90 pickups. The neck pickup offers a warm and full-bodied tone, while the bridge pickup still growls. With nearly 60 years of history, this guitar is in excellent condition with minor signs of use and natural weather checking, but no major damage or neck repair history.
Aside from the Gibson Deluxe tuners, which were replaced for tuning stability (identical to the originals without additional drilling), all other components—including the pickguard, top-hat knobs, and trapeze tailpiece—are original, and even the nut and frets remain unchanged. The frets are approximately 60% intact and still playable.
Includes Gibson case (non-original).
