這是一支具有歷史意義的吉他，1969年初期的版本，也就是擁有1968年的相同規格，包括一整塊的桃花心木琴身與Long Tenon Joint琴頸，與一組原始的P-90拾音器。也因為Gibson在現今重新復刻了1968 Les Paul Standard Reissue Goldtop，導致這些真正的1968年與1969年初期的Standard在市場上被公認為1960年代末最有價值的型號。而在1969年接近年中後，Gibson為了降低成本，桃花心木琴身與琴頸皆從一整塊變成了兩片式。

五十年以上樹齡的老桃花心木，使得鋼弦與琴身完美共振，擁有特別乾爽、清脆又空靈的音色，動態非比尋常，這是現代復刻琴難以比擬的。以Vintage吉他的狀態分級來說，這把吉他處於Mint Condition，金色漆面狀況極佳，琴身各處有著些許小傷痕與天然的Weather Checking，但整體相當乾淨，沒有大面積的損傷與琴頸維修，連琴背也沒有過多的使用痕跡。而琴身上的Knobs、ABR-1琴橋、Tailpiece、Sprague Black Beauty電容、未解焊過的Pots等皆為100%原裝，甚至連Nut與Fret都沒有被更換過，而且Fret高達八成新，依然保持著相當完好的彈奏手感，連原始的琴盒都還保留著，非常罕見。

在這物價持續通膨的世代，收藏古董琴真的是最好的投資選擇，只要是被Gibson原廠再次復刻過的50至60年代型號，依舊每年都在漲價。且由於1950年代Les Paul Burst一直以來在市場上的受歡迎程度，這使許多玩家利用相同配置的1968/69 Standard改裝了Humbuckers拾音器成Burst Conversion，這導致原汁原味未改裝、狀態完美的1968/69 Standard在市場上相當罕見。而此琴也收錄在元年琴權威圖鑑「The Burst Believers-Goldtop Believers」中，收藏價值極高。

The history of the Les Paul guitar can be traced back to its production from 1952 until it was discontinued in 1961. After the final batch of Les Paul Standard guitars ceased production, Gibson sought innovation and introduced the SG Les Paul model in 1961. However, when Les Paul’s contract with Gibson expired in 1962, he was in the midst of divorcing his wife, Mary Ford. He decided not to sign a new contract with Gibson before the divorce was finalized. Additionally, he expressed dissatisfaction with the new SG design and requested that his name be removed from the SG model. Gibson honored his request in 1963.

In the late 1960s, 7 years after the discontinuation of the Les Paul model, demand for guitars began to rise, and there was renewed interest in Gibson guitars from the 1950s. Gibson resumed its collaboration with Les Paul, culminating in the release of a new Les Paul Standard guitar in the summer of 1968. These guitars closely followed the construction of the 1950s Standard and Custom models. The Standard series was based on the 1956 Les Paul Standard Goldtop, featuring a gold-finished body paired with P-90 pickups, an ABR-1 bridge, and a tailpiece. Essentially, these guitars were a reissue of the 1950s Les Paul Standard series.

The guitar in question is a historically significant model: an early 1969 Goldtop Standard, which retains the same specifications as the 1968 release. It features a solid one-piece mahogany body, a long tenon neck joint, and original P-90 pickups. Due to Gibson’s modern reissue of the 1968 Les Paul Standard Goldtop, these original 1968 and early 1969 Standard models have become recognized as some of the most valuable guitars from the late 1960s. However, by mid-1969, Gibson began cost-cutting measures, and the mahogany bodies and necks were changed from one-piece to two-piece construction.

The guitar’s over 50 year old mahogany allows the strings and body to resonate perfectly, delivering an exceptionally dry yet crisp tone with unparalleled dynamic range, a quality difficult to replicate in modern reissues. In terms of vintage guitar grading, this guitar is in “mint condition”. The gold finish is in excellent shape, with some scratches, dings and natural weather checking but no major damage or neck repairs. Even the back of the guitar shows minimal signs of wear. All components, including the knobs, ABR-1 bridge, tailpiece, Sprague black beauty capacitors, and never desoldered pots are all 100% original. Even the nut and frets are original, with the frets retaining 80% of their usability, offering a superb playing experience. The original case is also preserved, making this guitar exceedingly rare.

In an era of persistent inflation, collecting vintage guitars is truly one of the best investment choices. Furthermore, due to the enduring popularity of the 1950s Les Paul Burst on the market, many players have converted 1968/69 Standards with similar configurations by adding humbuckers to create the “Burst conversions“. This has made unmodified, original-condition 1968/69 Standards extremely rare. This particular guitar is even documented in the authoritative vintage guitar book “The Burst Believers – Goldtop Believers“, greatly enhancing its collectible value.
