1995 Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus with AAAAA Killer Top

NT$ 4,662.00

The Classic Premium Plus was produced between 1993 and 2001. In 1991, Gibson designed an entirely new Les Paul model based on the 1960 Les Paul Standard. This model featured a correctly sized, vintage-style headstock, an ink-stamped serial number similar to the Reissue series (as opposed to the Standard's stamped serial number), a slim 1960s-style neck profile, aged yellowed inlays, and was equipped with 496R/500T pickups. It was named the Les Paul Classic series.

In 1992, Gibson introduced figured maple tops to create a value differentiation among their models. Based on the variety of maple tops used, the lineup was divided into the Classic Plus, Classic Premium Plus, and Les Paul Reissue models. This move highlighted the fact that the so-called "Pre-Historic" Les Paul Reissues produced between 1980 and 1992 were essentially Les Paul Classics fitted with different pickups and adorned with higher-grade figured maple tops. Therefore, in 1993, Gibson officially separated the Classic and Reissue lines. Although there was up to a threefold price difference between the two, the actual specifications between the Classic Premium Plus and the Custom Shop Reissue were only slightly different. In fact, the Classic’s specs were often even more vintage-accurate and closer to the original 1960 Les Paul Standard than the Reissues of that time.

The Premium Plus version differed from the standard Classic by featuring much more luxurious, highly-figured flame maple tops. These carefully selected tops were of the same grade as those used on Custom Shop Reissues during the 1990s. This is one of the reasons why the Classic Premium Plus models continue to command record-high prices in the market today.

This particular Les Paul Classic Premium Plus is truly extraordinary, not only does it boast a killer top that even Custom Shop Reissues rarely achieve, but after thirty full years, the guitar remains in near-mint condition.
