1996 Gibson Custom Shop Slash Signature Les Paul Snakepit 1 of 70 Limited Edition
For display only. Not for sale.
In 1996, Slash collaborated with Gibson to create this Snakepit guitar based on his own vision. Its distinctive and unique appearance garnered significant attention after Slash's collaboration with Michael Jackson during a concert. This was also Slash's first commercially produced guitar, meticulously handcrafted and inlaid with seashells by the technician T.C. Harrison. The official statement indicated a limited production of 100 units, but due to the intricate manufacturing process, fewer than 70 guitars were ultimately produced. Slash acquired four Snakepit guitars from Gibson in 1996/1997, but three of them were stolen in 1998. Currently, Slash only possesses one Snakepit guitar, which is also one of his most cherished instruments.
The top features hand-carved and painted "Snakepit," Slash's personal emblem. The fretboard is adorned with a cobra inlay made of seashells, representing its aggressive nature. This was the only time Gibson incorporated such elaborate craftsmanship in a production model, making it exceptionally ornate. Well-preserved Snakepit guitars are currently valued at a minimum of approximately US$100,000, and they remain the rarest and most collectible among Slash's Signature models.
