2004 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 1960 Stratocaster Floyd Rose HSS Relic by John Cruz-Olympic White

NT$ 7,182.00

2004 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 1960 Stratocaster Floyd Rose HSS Relic by John Cruz – Olympic White

This is a limited-edition model crafted by the legendary luthier John Cruz, who has since departed from the top-tier Masterbuilt division of Fender Custom Shop. Created during the early phase of his promotion to Master Builder in 2003, this guitar stands as a representative piece of his formative years. While based on the 1960 Stratocaster, it uniquely incorporates a 1968-style large headstock, heel cut joint, rare HSS pickup configuration, and a Floyd Rose bridge—distinctively showcasing Cruz’s early personal style with a strong 1980s rock attitude.

Constructed with tonewoods personally selected by John Cruz, the guitar delivers outstanding resonance. It features an ash body paired with a 60s Oval C-shaped maple neck with a 10” radius. The electronics were hand-wired by Cruz himself, with his signature found on the back of the pickguard. The neck and middle pickups are Texas Specials, while the bridge position is loaded with a Seymour Duncan SH-4 humbucker, offering powerful, thick output. The volume knob includes an S-1 switch, allowing the humbucker to be coil-tapped while still retaining punchy tone, giving the guitar a broad tonal range.

Overall, the guitar remains in good condition. Aside from the intentional relic treatment, there are normal signs of use throughout. There are screw hole marks on the back of the headstock from a previously installed allen wrench holder and finish cracks around the neck joint, but upon removing the neck, the underlying wood is shown to be intact with no structural issues—purely cosmetic, with no impact on playability or function, and reflected accordingly in the price.

Guitars built by John Cruz have long been regarded as highly collectible. Since his departure from Fender in 2020, the market value of his Masterbuilt guitars has consistently increased, now typically exceeding USD 15,000. As it’s extremely unlikely Cruz will ever return to Fender, instruments crafted by him are becoming increasingly rare and desirable.
