2008 Fender Custom Shop David Gilmour Black Stratocaster Relic

NT$ 488,000.00

從 Pink Floyd 的《The Dark Side of the Moon》、《Wish You Were Here》到《The Wall》,那些空靈而富有情感的吉他旋律,例如 Comfortably Numb 與 Shine On You Crazy Diamond

當時 Fender 推出了兩種版本,包括 NOS (New Old Stock) 與 Relic。

In the history of rock music, very few guitars possess the distinctive personality and legendary status of David Gilmour’s Black Strat. This Stratocaster is not just a guitar; it is almost a part of Pink Floyd’s music and David Gilmour’s life.

The original 1969 Fender Stratocaster was born in 1969. During a tour in the United States, Gilmour purchased several Stratocasters at the famous Manny’s Music in New York as backup instruments for the tour. One of them was later painted black and gradually became his primary guitar for recording and live performances. This guitar would eventually be known by fans around the world as the “Black Strat.”

Over the following decades, the Black Strat accompanied Gilmour in creating countless iconic sounds. From Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, to The Wall, many of the ethereal and deeply expressive guitar melodies, such as the signature tones heard in Comfortably Numb and Shine On You Crazy Diamond, were created with this very instrument.

Throughout its long history of use, the Black Strat underwent numerous modifications and parts replacements. Pickups, pickguards, necks, and even wiring configurations were changed multiple times. Different configurations from different eras shaped the tonal character of each period. These modifications gradually gave the guitar its unique voice and appearance, becoming legendary details widely discussed among fans and collectors. In 2019, the original Black Strat was sold at auction for nearly 4 million US dollars, equivalent to approximately 120 million New Taiwan dollars, setting the record at the time for the most expensive guitar ever sold and once again confirming its symbolic place in music history.

Because of the Black Strat’s legendary status in guitar culture, Fender Custom Shop officially released the David Gilmour Signature Black Strat in 2008, one of the few projects where Fender recreated a historic instrument with such an exceptional level of accuracy.

These reissues were produced by the Fender Custom Shop team based on the original specifications and measurements of Gilmour’s guitar, faithfully reproducing the most iconic configuration and visual details of the Black Strat. Fender released two versions at the time, including NOS (New Old Stock) and Relic. The Relic version carefully recreated the wear patterns of the original guitar, allowing players to experience the unique character of an instrument that had spent decades on stage and in the studio.

From the black alder body, maple neck and fingerboard, and detailed aging treatment, to the electronics configuration featuring Custom Shop Fat ’50s Single Coil pickups paired with a Seymour Duncan SSL-5 Single Coil, the guitar also includes the distinctive Bridge Pickup Neck-On Switch. This small switch allows the neck pickup to be added in any pickup position. As a result, in addition to the standard five Stratocaster pickup selections, two additional combinations become available. This configuration produces a wider tone reminiscent of a Telecaster and is one of the secrets behind many of Gilmour’s classic recordings.

After its release, this series quickly became one of the most iconic Signature Stratocasters in the collector market. This is not only because of David Gilmour’s status in rock history, but also because the Black Strat itself has long surpassed the meaning of a single guitar, becoming a symbol of Pink Floyd’s music and the entire era of rock.

For fans and guitar collectors, the Black Strat is not simply a classic black Stratocaster in appearance, but a reflection of an important chapter in music history. Every time its familiar sustain and expansive soundscape are heard, it feels as if one is transported back to the imaginative and emotionally powerful sonic world of Pink Floyd.
