這是 PRS 為慶祝品牌成立 40 週年所推出的頂級 Private Stock 限量作品，全球限量 165 把。以 PRS 經典的 McCarty 為基礎，結合 Private Stock 工坊最高等級的木材、Dragon Inlay 鑲嵌與手工製作工藝，是 PRS 全系列琴款中極具代表性的作品。

本琴最特殊之處，在於它並非一般正式量產版本，而是極為罕見的 Prototype 樣板琴，也就是在 40th Dragon 正式量產前，製作的第一把吉他。作為正式作品製作前的 Prototype，這把琴具有與最終量產版本不同的特殊收藏意義，也因此成為整批 PRS 40th Anniversary McCarty Dragon 系列中最難得的一把。

由 PRS Private Stock 頂級工坊進行完整的選材、配對，琴身採用精選高等級桃花心木，搭配頂級楓木面板，並在 Ziricote 指板上呈現 Dragon 系列最具代表性的龍騰 Inlay。這次 40th Dragon 由 Jeff Easley 繪製龍騰 。Jeff Easley 是著名的奇幻藝術家，曾為許多《Dungeons & Dragons》規則書繪製封面，這幅 Dragon 設計之後由 Aulson Inlay 團隊重新設計並製作成真正的鑲嵌工藝。透過複雜的高階鑲嵌工藝，使用了 207 個獨立且不同材質的 Inlay 零件，包括 Blue Pacific Opal、Brown Scale Juma，以及 Gold、Black、White 與 Brown Mother of Pearl。Dragon 鑲嵌一路延伸至 Truss Rod Cover，並以淺色的 Pale Moon Ebony 指板作為背景，使整條 Dragon 彷彿從指板表面躍然而出。琴頭上的 Private Stock Eagle 同樣採用高規格鑲嵌工藝製作，以 Black with Gold Web 為主要材料，並以 Gold Mother of Pearl 勾勒輪廓。這些精細的工藝技術，完成了令人驚嘆的視覺焦點，也使整把琴兼具 McCarty 經典復古輪廓與 Private Stock Dragon 系列獨有的華麗視覺。

琴頸採用桃花心木製作，搭配 Ziricote 指板，延續 McCarty 系列熟悉的手感與演奏特性。整體規格在保留傳統 PRS McCarty 經典的同時，也透過 Private Stock 等級的木材與製作工藝，進一步提升吉他的共鳴、動態與細節表現。搭載 PRS 全新的 McCarty III 拾音器，使這把琴能夠在溫暖、厚實且具有木質感的音色與更具穿透力的高增益聲音之間取得良好的平衡。無論是乾淨音色、藍調、Classic Rock，或是需要更高輸出的演奏風格，都能展現 McCarty 系列特有的厚實與開放感。

而這把 Prototype 原始為 Guitar Shop Taiwan 公司收藏品，琴身背蓋上保留了 PRS 創辦人 Paul Reed Smith 本人的親筆簽名。除此之外，還附有一份非常特殊的原始文件，由 Paul Reed Smith 本人親自署名，給 Guitar Shop Taiwan 負責人 Mason 的信件。

This is a top-tier Private Stock limited edition created by PRS to celebrate the company’s 40th Anniversary, with only 165 guitars produced worldwide. Built around the iconic PRS McCarty platform, it combines the highest-grade tonewoods selected by the Private Stock team with the extraordinary Dragon Inlay and meticulous craftsmanship, making it one of the most distinctive instruments in the entire PRS lineup.

What makes this particular guitar truly special is that it is not a regular production model, but an extremely rare Prototype, created as the first guitar made before the official production of the 40th Anniversary Dragon. As the Prototype produced prior to the finalized production run, this guitar has characteristics and significance distinct from the subsequent production models, making it an exceptionally rare example within the entire PRS 40th Anniversary McCarty Dragon series.

The guitar was fully selected, matched, and crafted by the PRS Private Stock team. The body features carefully selected, high-grade mahogany paired with a premium figured maple top, while the Dragon series’ most recognizable feature is presented across the fretboard through an extraordinary Dragon Inlay.

For the 40th Anniversary Dragon, the Dragon artwork was created by Jeff Easley, a renowned fantasy artist best known for his work on numerous Dungeons & Dragons rulebook covers. His Dragon design was subsequently reinterpreted and recreated as a genuine inlay by the team at Aulson Inlay.

The intricate inlay is composed of 207 individual pieces, incorporating a variety of different materials, including Blue Pacific Opal, Brown Scale Juma, and Gold, Black, White, and Brown Mother of Pearl. The Dragon extends all the way onto the Truss Rod Cover, while the pale Pale Moon Ebony provides a striking background that makes the entire Dragon appear to leap directly from the surface of the fingerboard.

The Private Stock Eagle on the headstock is also crafted using highly sophisticated inlay techniques, featuring Black with Gold Web as the primary material and outlined with Gold Mother of Pearl.

These intricate techniques create a truly remarkable visual centerpiece, combining the classic, vintage-inspired silhouette of the McCarty with the unmistakably elaborate aesthetic of a Private Stock Dragon.

The neck is crafted from mahogany and paired with a Ziricote fingerboard, retaining the familiar feel and playing characteristics of the McCarty platform. While preserving the traditional character of the classic PRS McCarty, the use of Private Stock-grade tonewoods and construction techniques further enhances the guitar’s resonance, dynamics, and tonal detail.

The guitar is equipped with PRS’s new McCarty III pickups, providing an excellent balance between warm, rich, woody tones and more powerful, articulate high-gain sounds. From clean tones and blues to Classic Rock and higher-output playing styles, it delivers the characteristic warmth, fullness, and openness associated with the McCarty platform.

This Prototype was originally part of the Guitar Shop Taiwan company collection, and the back cover retains the original handwritten signature of Paul Reed Smith, founder of PRS.

In addition, the guitar is accompanied by an exceptionally special original document: a letter personally signed by Paul Reed Smith and addressed to Mason, the person in charge of Guitar Shop Taiwan.
